Regional PolicymakingDoi, Yoshihiro

Since the resident movement in the 1960s, regional policy had changed from something fomulated by the sentralistic administrative framework to something formed on the basis of citizens’ lives and needs: expansion of citizen participation in administrative planning, growth of the NPO sector, and promotion of collaborative projects between citizens and the government.

In this class, we will follow the historical flow of community policy and citizen participation in Japan with concrete examples, and learn the way of thinkings and the methods necessary for citizen-centered regional policyformation for the future.
